INSPIRATION
When I first signed up at Ragin six years ago, I had recently transitioned roles in my job and went from being on my feet for 10-12 hours at a time to sitting at a desk. My weight shot up, I quickly jumped up two pants sizes, my energy was low, and I was becoming depressed. I had always admired Crossfit from a distance, but had the misconception that I needed to be in amazing shape to start. Over the years, I struggled to stay consistent with running and regular gym routines and I needed something that would stick. I found my perfect fit at Ragin Fitness Co. My motivation has shifted to being able to keep up with my kids and to show them fitness in a positive light so that it will become a part of their daily routine. I want my kids to see how disciplined their Dad is with his fitness and lifestyle choices and hopefully aspire to being as committed to a healthy lifestyle as I have been for the last 6 years.
GOAL
My overarching goal is to keep my health at an optimal level and make steady improvements daily. I like to set short-term goals to keep me motivated and pushing towards small wins. Currently, the goal that I am working towards is to complete a 5k race wearing my 20lb vest with my 11 yr old son. My son and I are running together 3 evenings a week. This will be his first 5k and I needed something to make it a little more challenging, so after completing Murph I got the idea to add the vest.
ADVICE
Best advice I could give to anyone looking to live a healthy and fulfilled life is that in whatever you choose to do remember to be consistent, intentional, and present. Consistently showing up to the gym and eating healthy will help you to reach your fitness goals. Live your life intentionally but not for glorification of yourself or others. Be present and enjoy the process whether that is working towards your fitness goals or navigating new plans that may be incorporated in your workplace. Putting your health first will result in building better relationships with others and will take your confidence levels to new heights!
I think setting goals is very important. As I mentioned before, I try to set small short-term goals. By setting small goals, you set yourself up for a series of wins throughout the year. The second step is accountability. We often struggle to hold ourselves accountable, so surrounding yourself with positive people who support your goals is important. Get a buddy to help push you along the way. A real friend will give you honest feedback and tell you when you aren't holding up your end of the deal. Finally, take time to enjoy the journey. It's easy to get caught up in the destination, but many great experiences are missed along the way if you don't stop to look around.
WHY RAGIN FITNESS CO?
Ragin Fitness Co. is noticeably different in so many ways. I love seeing ownership/management go out of their way to introduce themselves to new members or give fistbumps to existing members. The coaches actually take time not only to give positive feedback, but to make personal connections. The members are like family. If I miss a class, I know someone will ask me where I was and why I didn't come. Ragin Fitness Co. is truly a community. The friendships I have made at Ragin go beyond the gym. I would encourage anyone who wants a truly unique fitness experience to give Ragin a try. You will be met with open arms and will immediately become a part of this tight knit group!
